2-D and Color Doppler Echocardiogram
The 2-D and Color Doppler Echocardiogram is a common, comprehensive evaluation of the structure and function of the heart. This test is available at Preventive Cardiology of New York (PCNY) as a part of our wide range of preventive services. This test takes approximately 30 minutes, and provides Dr. Lee Marcus with an extensive amount of information regarding the status of your heart and blood vessels. This will help him understand your evaluate for the presence of, and assess your risk for, cardiovascular disease and determine if you currently have any defects that should be cause for concern. From here, Dr. Lee Marcus will develop an individualized treatment plan, and decide on any further testing that may be necessary, to reduce your risk and/or treat abnormality.
2-D and Color Doppler Echocardiogram Exam in New York City
When a patient comes into PCNY for the 2-D and Color Doppler Echocardiogram, they will lie flat on an exam table. A technician will apply a gel to the chest, allowing a transducer to be moved across the chest to get views of the heart. This completely noninvasive procedure is an excellent starting point for determining cardiovascular health status, as well as addressing specific cardiovascular complaints.
The 2-D and Color Doppler Echocardiogram will measure and evaluate:
- Heart structure
- Muscle structure and function (your “ejection fraction”)
- Valve structure and function
- Fluid around the lining of the heart
- The part of the aorta that initially leaves the heart to supply blood to the entire body
On the Doppler study, the “echoes” that result from the ultrasound are used to create a color-coded picture of the blood flow, which can be seen in real-time on a video screen. This allows both Dr. Lee Marcus and the patient to observe abnormalities if any are present.
If an abnormality is detected, Dr. Lee Marcus will prescribe a disease specific treatment plan. Other preventive interventions may be recommended to ensure all precautions are taken in preventing serious cardiovascular disease. Follow-up exams will also take place to determine the success of these interventions and make changes as Dr. Lee Marcus sees fit.
